The Rabbit Haven, a rescue organization in the Scotts Valley area of Northern California, has received a $4,000 donation thanks to their association with My Broker Donates, a program that donates real estate broker referral fees to non-profits. The announcement was made by My Broker Donates co-founder, Jack McLaughlin. Here are some of the details:
The Rabbit Haven, which is entirely funded by individual donors and grants, partnered with My Broker Donates in January 2012 to increase donations. Karen and Darrell Thomas, volunteers at The Rabbit Haven for the past six years, registered with MBD in June to facilitate the sale of their Los Gatos home. The transaction, which closed in September, resulted in a $4,000 donation to The Rabbit Haven.
“We were thrilled to discover that we could benefit The Rabbit Haven with a portion of our real estate agent’s commission by using My Broker Donates to find us an agent. My Broker Donates identified several qualified agents from which we selected the person who sold our home. Buying and selling real estate is not something we do frequently but, as real estate commissions are a given and we had a house to sell, we decided to make sure some of that commission would go to our favorite charitable organization,” stated Mr. Thomas.
“Partnering with My Broker Donates was essentially a no-brainer. Fundraising is critically important to The Rabbit Haven and My Broker Donates provides us with a way to garner sizable donations — $4,000 is a big donation from an individual donor. Our donor also received a valuable service: My Broker Donates only refers first-class service providers with stellar performance records and a strong commitment to their community. For all those Rabbit Haven lovers thinking about selling their homes: Please see My Broker Donates to get a great price on your home and the opportunity to support The Rabbit Haven. You will receive a good selection of excellent Realtors to choose from and make the sale or purchase of your home count for the non-profit you support; it will cost you nothing,” stated Heather Bechtel, Director, The Rabbit Haven.
My Broker Donates connects home buyers and sellers with up to three real estate agents matched to their particular transaction through an objective, data-driven process. Buyers and sellers choose the agent they like best. Employing the right agent means a better outcome for clients. Those selling a house are provided with the best opportunity for getting the highest possible price. Those buying a house are better assured of locating the ideal property. When their transaction closes, My Broker Donates uses the broker referral fee to make a sizable donation to the non-profit organization selected by the home buyer/seller — at zero cost to the home buyer/seller or the charity. On a home sale of $500,000, the resulting contribution is more than $2,000. (Go to MBD’s Donate-O-Meter to compute a donation.)

One of the biggest problems facing non-profit rabbit rescue organizations is fundraising, or more specifically, the lack of donations. Some money is raised through adoption fees and by the sale of hay and other rabbit foods and accessories, but it is a very rare organization indeed that could not use more cash. That is why the process of partnering with such a social enterprise as My Broker Donates seems like such a win-win situation. According to their website, My Broker Donates assists charities, schools and non-profit organizations throughout the United States and Canada.
