An online petition has been created in order to get the Cottage Grove Rodeo to discontinue its controversial “animal scramble” in which live rabbits are thrown from a vehicle into a rodeo ring where children chase them, pick them up and carry them home.
Rabbits are sensitive, intelligent and social creatures that deserve better treatment than to be thrown around, mauled by kids and worse. These rabbits are purposely bred for this inhumane activity. What kind of example of cruelty are they setting for kids with this event? We are looking to gather MANY signatures and push it through to demand change!
Based in Foster, RI, Sweet Binks seeks to educate the public on proper care, housing, diet, and behavior concerning domesticated rabbits as pets. Their goal is to end euthanasia of rabbits in city shelters, and find quality homes for those surrendered to shelters. Sweet Binks has a custom 1800 sq. ft. shelter to provide sanctuary until being placed. They also stress the importance of spay/neutering and indoor housing.
Hoppington Post learned about the petition via the Etherbun Yahoo group, one member of which wrote: “I’ve seen a lot of human cruelty and suffering around the world, but I’ve never seen a rabbit thrown several yards in the exact same manner as my wife tosses the garbage out the front door for me to put in the can. I wish I had been there personally to educate a few people on fragile rabbit anatomy. If you want to sign the petition, below is the link.”
